Max Lucado: people in my church are scared of Donald Trump

by Aaron James

Max Lucado also said he called his congregation to pray for president-elect Trump and that God is still in control amid his victory.

Lucado opposed Donald Trump while he was running for the White House, saying in a blog that he didn't pass a basic test of decency that would be required for someone leading the US.

It's after Donald Trump made comments many have regarded as insulting to women and the disabled. Others have also accused Trump of racism after comments he made about Latinos and African-Americans.

President Barack Obama said "there are going to be certain elements" of Mr Trump's temperament "that will not serve him well unless he recognises and corrects them".

Donald Trump has said the country and the world has nothing to fear from his presidency and recently telephoned Russian president Vladimir Putin to begin repairing strained US-Russian relations, with the countries currently backing different sides in the Syrian war.

Lucado said he urged his congregation pray three things for Donald Trump: that he would have a heart for people like King David, a vision for the US and the world like Daniel, and the leadership and administrative skills of Joseph.

Speaking on Premier Drive, he said: "I've had several members of our church come and express feelings of fear and anxiety, and I just tried to remind them that what we do now is we pray.

"There are some things he said during his election that caused many of us concern. For all of us now, all we can do is pray for him, wish him the very, very best, and assume that he's going to oversee the affairs of the country in a healthy and vibrant way.

"He's got some wonderful, godly, men and women - it seems - serving on his team, and so I'm very encouraged about that.

"I believe that God is still on his throne. He will oversee and direct the affairs of our nation as well as your nation."
