Maverick City Music co-founder and chief executive officer Jonathan Jay has spoken out following a lawsuit filed by worship leader Chandler Moore, describing the claims as “categorically false” and “calculated attempts” to distort the truth.
Moore, one of the founding members of the worship collective, recently filed a lawsuit against his former manager, Norman Gyamfi, accusing him of fraud, forgery, and misappropriating royalties. The complaint alleges that Gyamfi used companies linked to TRIBL and Maverick City Music to profit financially at Moore’s expense.
The lawsuit also references a 2024 deal in which Moore claims he fulfilled his commitments to Maverick City Music but was not fully paid or given accurate royalty statements. He is asking the court to cancel the disputed contracts and award damages.
In response, Jay issued a statement on Instagram on Wednesday rejecting the claims and defending the integrity of Maverick City Music and its leadership.
“To be clear: the claims being made against me, against Norman, and against our companies are categorically false,” Jay wrote. “These aren’t misunderstandings. These are calculated attempts to strong-arm a way out of agreements Chandler made freely and later breached.”
Jay said Maverick City’s business dealings with Moore were “forthright, generous, and above reproach,” and that the organization “acted in good faith” and “consistently extended grace.”
He also expressed sadness over the public nature of the dispute and added: “There’s a pattern of avoided accountability, unresolved conflicts passed off to others, and a history of others being forced to carry the weight of consequences never owned. That pattern ends here.”
Jay concluded by reaffirming the group’s commitment to its mission and message.
“We will keep lifting the name of Jesus in every room He opens,” he said. “We stand on truth. We stand on integrity. And we will not be moved.”
Representatives for both Moore and Gyamfi have not yet commented publicly on the ongoing legal proceedings.
Earlier this week, both Moore and Naomi Raine announced that they are no longer part of Maverick City Music.
