Boris Johnson has announced that face coverings must be worn in places of worship from 8th August and that wedding receptions will not be allowed for another two weeks.

Wedding receptions for up to 30 people were going to be allowed from tomorrow (1st August) but the Prime Minister has announced these will now not be allowed until Saturday 15th August.

Wedding services will still be allowed to go ahead.

This two week postponement also applies to indoor performances, bowling alleys and ice rinks. 

The PM said he apologises "to everyone, obviously, whose weddings plans have been disrupted or who cannot now celebrate Eid in the way that they would wish. I'm really, really sorry about that but we simply cannot take the risk."

Face coverings are recommended straight away but will be enforcable by law in more locations in "indoor settings where you're likely to come into contact with people you do not normally meet such as museums, galleries, cinemas and places of worship" he said. 

Churches services are currently already allowed as long as social distancing is maintained and other precautions are taken such as one-way systems and different entrances and exits.

Many churches have not gone back physically though as they cannot cater for social distancing with all their members in the building.
