Pastor Mark Driscoll of Trinity Church is expanding into a new location that he said will be four times the square footage of the current location.
Driscoll and his team acquired a $15.5 million building for expansion on Jan. 5. The purchase reportedly included a more than $2.7 million down payment and a $12,735,0000 loan financed by AG Financial Solutions, according to The Christian Post,
The former building, constructed in 1997, measures around 116,2000 square feet with 378 parking spaces, a fitness center, and a conference facility. The new building, according to Driscoll, will have more than 1,500 parking spaces, double the size in seating with over 1,700 seats, a children’s space that can hold over 500 children, and more.
“This is the moment. Since our beginning as a Bible study in 2016, the mission of Trinity Church has remained the same. We open our Bibles to learn … open our lives to love, so that lives and legacies are transformed,” Driscoll said.
He continued: “God has richly blessed this mission, and our church family has completely outgrown our home. So we prayed, and God answered.”
In 2014, Driscoll resigned from Seattle’s Mars Hill Church following intense scrutiny over his leadership style, which was characterized as bullying and abusive behavior. The church dissolved after his exit.
Then in 2021, he faced similar criticism from former followers who accused him of “immoral, unethical, and unbiblical actions," according to The Christian Post.
Driscoll’s church currently attracts over 5,000 worshippers each service.
