Man spends lockdown creating hand-written Bible

by Tola Mbakwe

A man in India hand-wrote the entire Catholic Bible while he was in lockdown.

Rejin Valson, a 28 year-old firefighter from Kerala, said the feat was a good way to pass time and wanted it to be done by the time his seven-month pregnant wife gave birth.

He told Catholic news website CruxNow: "My wife, Choice, laughed initially when I shared with her my intention to handwrite the Bible, but when I began, Choice gave me all the support, and also my mum supported me," he said.

"I requested my spiritual guides Father Jinto, Father Able and Father Finosh to give me their blessings and pray for me - all three fathers were praying for my mission. I also requested the religious sisters to pray for me."

Valson began handwriting the Bible on 1st April and spent ten to eleven hours a day doing so. He said he had to pray for patience.

He completed the Bible on 22nd July, meaning it ended up taking him 113 days to complete. He used 2,755 sheets of paper and went through 32 ballpoint pens. The Bible weights more than 30 pounds.

According to Vatican News, the hand-written Bible was presented to Archbishop Andrews Thazhath and Auxiliary Bishop Tony Neelankavil of Thrissur on 31st July. It is now on display at Valson's local parish.
