A man detained by parishioners after throwing microphones at the stained glass windows of an Oxford church has been jailed for breaking a police officer's nose. 

Churchgoers at St Aldates Church placed Aiden O'Neill, of Luther Street, Oxford, into a church parish meeting room after he took two church microphones and attempted to put them through the stained glass. 

They then called the police, resulting in police community support officer Cameron Noble being dispatched to the scene. 

O'Neill had visited the church on the morning of Sunday, 6th November in order to visit his mother, who was a member of the congregation. 

She then attended a post-service lunch, prompting his return to St Aldates to see her again, when the incident took place. 

When Noble's colleague Sgt Peter Neale arrived, the 25-year old was arrested for criminal damage. 

O'Neill resisted arrest, punching PSCO Noble in the face in the process. 

Mr Noble was left unconscious with a broken nose. The perpetrator was doused with pepper spray in a bid to restrain him. 

Shortly before the violent altercation O'Neill shouted about police brutality.  

When arriving at Abdingdon police station, O'Neill threatened to rape a female constable and her children. He also threatened to decapitate her. 

During his trial at Oxford Crown Court, the defendant was repeatedly asked to be quiet as he continued to shout from the dock. 

O'Neill was sentenced to 22 months for the November offences. The recorder activated the 12 week suspended sentence in full.
