'It just spoke to me': LeBron James posts spontaneous faith message on Instagram

by Anna Rees Green

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James shared a moment of faith after his team’s recent game in Portland, posting an Instagram photo of a small red card featuring Isiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.”

James told reporters that a Portland ballboy had given him the card after the game, saying, “Jesus loves you,” to which James responded, “and obviously He does.”

The NBA legend, who rarely speaks publicly about his personal faith, said the verse had a strong impact on him. “I thought that was a great quote. When I looked at it, I read it – it just spoke to me. So I posted it… because the guy was grateful enough and gracious enough to give it to me.”

While James seldom discusses his faith on social media or in interviews, he has occasionally referenced his beliefs. In 2015, when asked if his team at the time, the Cleveland Cavaliers, would improve after two injured players returned, James told the media: “I hope we don’t think that way. It’s never that way...

"There’s only one guy ever in the world that everything will be all right when He comes back, and that’s Jesus Christ. Other than that, you can’t bank on nobody being OK.”
