King donates £50,000 for roof repairs at late Queen's favourite church

by Donna Birrell

King Charles has donated more than £50,000 towards urgent roof repairs at a church on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

St Peter and St Paul Parish Church in West Newton is holding a fundraising appeal to raise £200,000 for repairs and the church’s annual financial report shows that the King gifted  £50,900 to the fund via the privy purse, last year.

The medieval church was a favourite of the late Queen Elizabeth who would often attend Sunday services there. She would also make it the final church visit of her annual Christmas stay at Sandringham.

The church has long been associated with the Royal Family and was rebuilt in 1881 after falling into disrepair. Queen Victoria donated the organ with the then Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh gifting the choir stalls.

Fundraising for repairs is continuing, with the amount now raised in the region of £78,000.
