A settlement has been reached between Jerry Falwell Jr and the Christian University his father founded.
Falwell Jr, known for his support of Donald Trump during the run-up to and duration of his presidency, as well as for several sex scandals, was the chancellor of Liberty University, Virginia, until August 2020.
He resigned that year after a scandal involving his wife and a swimming pool attendant, which led to Falwell admitting his wife had “had an inappropriate personal relationship” with the 29-year-old, but denying his alleged involvement.
Falwell Jr, son of Rev Falwell Sr who famously blamed “the abortionists, the feminists, the gays and the lesbians” for the 9/11 attacks, has now settled “various disputed agreements” with Liberty, after a “lengthy and painful litigation process”, according to the university.
Falwell Jr had been president, chancellor and member of the board of directors at the prominent Evangelical institution until August 2020.
In a statement last week, the college stated that both parties had "reached a global resolution agreement settling all outstanding disputes on both legal and personal matters".
