JD Vance admits he’s ‘okay’ with Hindu wife not converting to Christianity

by Nayana Mena

US Vice president JD Vance has revealed that he has come to terms with the fact that his wife has no plans to convert to Christianity.

In an interview with NBC News on Monday, he said: "I’m okay with that”, when discussing his wife’s religious beliefs and not wanting to convert.

This has come after the 41-year-old defended the comments he made last year where he shared his hopes about his wife eventually embracing Christianity as their three children are raised as “Christians”.

At a Turning Point USA event last October, he told students: “Do I hope, eventually, that she is somehow moved by the same thing that I was moved in by church? Yeah, I honestly do wish that because I believe in the Christian gospel.”

During the interview on Monday, he described his wife, Usha as “brilliant”, but also “fiercely independent”.

“You know fundamentally Christianity is a faith where, if you believe in it, you would like other people to believe in it, too, and that’s going to be particularly true for those that you’re closest to and those you love,” he continued.

Vance said that despite their differing faith views, most Sundays “Usha will come with me to church”.
