Individual prayer allowed in churches in Wales from Monday

by Cara Bentley

Wales will allow private prayer to resume in church buildings from Monday.

Scotland are also introducing the measure on Monday, while England introduced it last weekend.

Northern Ireland are slightly ahead, moving towards re-opening churches for services on 29th June.

First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford, announced on Friday that private prayer will be allowed from 22nd June where social distancing is maintained and gatherings do not take place.

Restrictions on outdoors activities will be also lifted and the housing market in Wales will re-open.

However, the requirement to stay local and not travel more than five miles from home remains in place, except on compassionate grounds. Ministers are hoping to remove this rule on 6th July.

First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, announced similar plans for places of worship this week, with other limits easing from Monday as well.

Weddings "with minimal attendees" will be allowed in Scotland outdoors from 29th June.
