'If God can forgive you so can I': Dolly Parton says Christian faith rejects cancel-culture

by Premier Journalist

Legendary country singer Dolly Parton has described cancel-culture as "terrible", and that "if God can forgive", so must "we all".

"We all make mistakes," Parton explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "We don’t all get caught at it. But also when somebody makes a mistake, it depends on who they are. That’s what God is there for."

She continued, "Now, I happen to believe in God; I am a faith based person, so therefore I am able to see it like that. A lot of people don’t, but even still, everybody deserves a second chance. You deserve to be innocent until you’re proven guilty. Even when you’re proven guilty, if God can forgive you, so can I. If God can forgive you, we all should forgive one another."

She described her faith in a previous interview with Fox News as all-encompassing.

"My faith impacts everything that I do because I do believe that, through God, all things are possible," said Parton, quoting Jesus' words to his disciples in Mark 10, Matthew 19 and Luke 1.

"And so I always ask God to bless everything that I do and the people that I work with and to bring all the right things and right people into my life and to take the wrong ones out.

The multi-award-winning 77 year-old artist put her longevity down to being fuelled by her faith.

She also says she tries to view others with what she describes as "God-light".

"I try to shine with it and let them see it through me," Parton said. I go to that, because we’re all pieces of God and we all have that little God-light inside us. Some don’t get to let it shine. If I don’t see it first out, I’d go searching. That’s how I accept everybody because I know that we’re all pieces of God."
