'I’m glorifying him': Superbowl star Patrick Mahomes gives God all the credit after stunning victory

The star man of this year’s Super Bowl contest has given all the glory to God after his team’s stunning victory. The Kansas City Chiefs triumphed over the Francisco 49ers 31 - 20 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami after a standout performance from their renowned quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.

As he prepared for the biggest game of his life, and under the watchful gaze of the world’s media, Mahomes spoke candidly of his faith in Jesus Christ.

“Faith has always been big with me,” he told Fox 4 Kansas City. “Obviously I want to win every game, but I’m glorifying him every single time I’m out there.”

The prominent athlete went on to describe how his Christian faith keeps him grounded when facing such an enormous occasion: “As long as I’m doing everything the right way and the way that He would want me to do it, then I can walk off the field with my head held high and be able to be the man that I am,” he explained “I understand that He’s given me a lot of blessings in my life, and I’m trying to maximize them and glorify Him.”

Finding themselves behind late into the fourth quarter, it looked as if the Chiefs’ hopes had been dashed. When it came down to the wire, though, the quarterback said his team kept believing, chose to rely on one simple virtue: faith.

“We never lost faith, that’s the biggest thing,” he said, according to Relevant Magazine. “Everybody on this team, no one has their head down and we believe in each other and that’s what we preached all year long.”

With only six minutes left and trailing 20-10, the Chiefs shifted gears, with Mahomes throwing a stunning completed pass to wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Minutes later, the quarterback launched a touchdown pass to Travis Kelce to put them ahead. The 50-year-long wait for another coveted Super Bowl title was finally over.

After the game, Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt also chose to give God all the glory for what was a truly remarkable evening for his team: “I want to thank the Lord for blessing us with all these incredible people to bring this trophy home,” he declared.

The Super Bowl has featured several prominent Christians in recent years. In 2018, quarterback Nick Foles led the Philadelphia Eagles to a shock victory over the New England Patriots. Foles, an outspoken believer, has expressed his desire to become a pastor upon retiring from football.

Speaking ahead of the big game two years ago, Foles said: "I want to be a pastor in a high school. I took a leap of faith last year and signed up to take classes at seminary.”

Following Philly's momentous win, the MVP declared: I wouldn't be out here without Jesus in my life.

"I don't have the strength to come out here and play this game like that.

"We have struggles as people but that's been my rock."
