'I didn't feel particularly wanted as a Christian in the SNP': MP speaks out

by Marcus Jones

A Christian MP has said she felt unwanted by her party because of her faith.

Dr Lisa Cameron defected from the Scottish National Party to the Conservative Party earlier this month accusing her former colleagues of creating a toxic culture.

She made her first appearance with her new party at Prime Minister's Questions this week sitting alongside former Prime Minister Theresa May.

Speaking to the BBC, the MP for East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow said her Christian faith had been "frowned upon" by some in the SNP.

"I didn't feel particularly wanted as a Christian in the SNP," she said.

"You were made to feel like you're a Christian but just don't raise it very much, certainly don't vote in line with your beliefs.

"I had voted against abortion regulation previously in the Parliament and that had been another issue with the SNP.

Following her defection from the SNP Dr Cameron said she and her family were forced to leave their home due to threats.
