Holy Land Experience sold to Healthcare company owned by 7th Day Adventists

by Premier Journalist

A Seventh-Day Adventist healthcare company will now own the Florida-based Holy Land Experience.

The Holy Land Experience has been operated by the Crouch-owned Trinity Broadcasting Network, one of the more prominent religious broadcasters in the United States. Due to economic issues, TBN's leadership has sold the Holy Land Experience to Adventist Health System Inc, or AdventHealth for short.

The Holy Land Experience, described by the original owners as a "Living Museum", opened in 2001 after receiving funding from Marvin Rosenthal, the owner of Zion's Hope. The park was eventually sold to TBN in 2007 due to the company being in debt. TBN would later use the site to host an assortment of exhibits alongside a new broadcasting facility for TBN. The park hosts a variety of exhibitions, live musical productions, and religious services.

However, the park ran into financial trouble over the years despite attempts to constantly expand its offerings. In January 2020, TBN announced that it would focus more on displaying "Biblical artifacts and education and cease Live performances." This change lead to a wave of layoffs in February 2020.

The park closed its doors in March 2020 due to COVID-19. The Experience has remained closed since barring a few days marked for free admission in 2021.

According to Orlando's WFTV, TBN sold the site for an estimated $32 million - five million less than TBN's original purchase price in 2007. A spokesperson from AdventHealth told the Orlando Business Journal that "AdventHealth will make a significant investment in redeveloping the property to bring enhanced health care services to the community" and that they anticipate adapting the site into a hospital.
