Hillsong has purchased a new theatre as it continues to grow its congregations in the UK
The Golders Green Hippodrome will become its home in North London. The church has a group which currently meets at Bernie Grant Arts Centre in Tottenham.
The building has hosted stars such as Vera Lynn and Laurence Olivier.
Previous owners include the BBC, Relentless Church and more recently Markaz al-Tathgeef al-Islami - an Islamic group who sold the building having faced local backlash from those who claimed a strong Muslim presence in a Jewish area would be dangerous.
While it's unknown how much Hillsong paid for the property, it last sold for £5.25m in 2017.
Premier has reached out to Hillsong for a comment, but in a statement to Jewish News, the church said: "We aim to be a positive influence in the area. We recognise the significance of the building to the community and look forward to playing our part by adding to the work of local churches and charities through our social action programmes."
While without revealing details of the property - Hillsong UK leader Pastor Tim Douglass announced earlier this month that a theatre was being acquired.
Hillsong has 12 locations across the UK. Its Central London congregation meets at the Dominion Theatre and has around 10,000 attending across its Sunday services.
Founded in Australia by Brian Houston in 1983, it has grown to global network of churches across 30 countries with a worldwide weekly attendance of 150,000.
