Headteacher reported by parents of Christian children excluded over anti-LGBT comments

by Eno Adeogun

Ten-year-olds Kaysey and Farrell were excluded for five days from Heavers Farmer Primary School in Croydon, South London.

According to Christian Concern who is supporting the families of the children that were excluded, on 20th June, Farrell, sitting next to his friend Kaysey in class, asked his year 5 class teacher if he could be excused from taking part in an LGBT lesson.

The teacher refused and said the LGBT lesson was part of the curriculum.

The teacher is then said to have accused Farrell after class of using "homophobic language" for allegedly saying, "LGBT sucks and LGBT's dumb," which the child denies.

Kaysey said in a video recording posted online that she isn't homophobic.

"I'm not homophobic, I'm just against the point of putting it in schools and, and teaching it to children.

"I think that they're trying to confuse children into saying 'what are you'? Because before anybody knew what LGBT meant everybody knew what gender they were.

"But now people are confused and they're saying that they're e bisexual, and trans...before all of this happened, they were completely confident of who they were but now they're not."

The children also claim the teacher asked them "Do you want them to die?"

Farrell told the teacher he didn't but that if they went back to their countries, they would be punished for being gay.

When Farrell explained that in Jamaican heritage, where "everybody is Christian and Catholic, LGBT isn't accepted."

Head teacher, Susan Papas reportedly shouted at the two children in front of the class, and said: "How dare you? You are a disappointment to the school."

The parents of both children have complained to the Principal Officer - Exclusions Prevention of the local authority.

This is not the first time the school has made headlines for its LGBT stance.

In June 2018 parents threatened to protest at a playground pride parade organised by the primary school.

Premier has contacted the school for a comment.
