'God told me it was time': Sean 'Diddy' Combs reveals reason for return to music

by Marcus Jones

Multi award winning rapper Sean Combs has said God told him to get back to music.

The 54-year-old, formerly known as Puff Daddy and later P Diddy, is a guest on this week's The Graham Norton Show on BBC1.

Promoting his new album, which is 13 years on from his last, he told the host: "I like to take my time!

"I went through a healing journey and stopped making music and stopped being creative.

"I was on a low frequency and then one day God told me it was time, and I started making music again.

Raised as a Catholic, the three time Grammy winner no longer identifies as being part of any denomination but frequently speaks about his faith.

Speaking to media outlet Ebony in 2016 he said: "First of all, God is my best friend; the reason I wanted to do a gospel album was to give thanks.

"Over the years, Bad Boy (his company) has made a lot of things cool, from the way we dress, dance, the sunglasses that we wear, and the designers we endorse. Well, now God is something we're going to endorse...we want to make God cool."

The Graham Norton Show airs on BBC One on Friday evening, as is available on iPlayer .
