Israel and Hamas are blaming each other for breaking the truce which began this morning.
It's claimed Israeli shelling has killed up to 40 people in a hospital in Gaza.
The Foreign Office is urgently looking into reports that a soldier who may have been kidnapped by Hamas is British-Israeli.
The Palestinian Authority's UK representative Professor Manuel Hassassian says if a soldier has been taken - his release should be negotiated: "Since Hamas is the underdog and since the Palestinians are under fire I think maybe that would be the trump card for them to allow Israel to stop its aggression in exchange for this prisoner."
More than 1420 Palestinians, most of them civilians, and 64 Israelis have been killed since the violence began on 8 July.
Israel claims the offensive is to destroy the supply of rockets which are being fired from Gaza into the country.
The temporary ceasefire had been brokered by the United Nations and United States.
Meanwhile two vicars in Andover are showing solidarity with people in Gaza by attempting to live as they are doing during the conflict.
Revds. Andrew and Victoria Ashdown are staying overnight in St Paul's Church with few supplies and are relying on other people's generosity.
Victoria told Premier's News Hour why she wanted to act: "I think it was just that dreadful feeling of helplessness in the face of all this grotesqueness we are seeing."
The couple are aiming to pray for everyone killed in the conflict individually and by name.
