Caritas Jerusalem Director Fr Raed Abusahliah has appealed for both Israel and Hamas to find a ceasefire.
Since the violence started three weeks ago at least 1,200 Palestinians and 55 Israelis have been killed.
Last night at least 32 Palestinians were killed in fighting.
In an interview with Vatican Radio Fr Raed also said the conflict had left a Christian woman dead.
He said the family home in Gaza was attacked "without any previous notice and we don't even know why".
The 60 year old mother was killed instantly whilst her 30 year old son was left severely injured.
There are around 1300 Christians living in Gaza and Fr Raed said there's nowhere for them to seek refuge.
"They are in the middle of the conflict. The whole situation is difficult: no electricity, no water, day and night bombardments, missiles from both sides. So it is really, really terrible.
"They can't go out even if they would like to. Even if they can go out, where can they go? The Egyptian crossing is closed, the Israeli side is closed so they are trapped there," he said.
Appealing for the violence to stop he said: "I am describing the situation but to see the photos and hear these stories, it's really beyond your imagination!
"It's like in the Second World War which means whole destruction. They are targeting everybody: civilians, women, children and hospitals," he said.
