The charity Christian Aid has warned of “critical” starvation in Gaza, revealing a list of exorbitant prices for basic goods in the region.
It comes as the IDF says it will allow some aid drops to the region, after widespread outcry from the international community.
Sir Keir Starmer has confirmed that the UK will join Jordan in dropping food parcels to Gaza – but aid agencies say drops cannot suffice for the mass scale of starvation.
Christian Aid’s latest data reveals that a packet of 64 nappies in the Gaza Strip costs the equivalent of £140, whilst a bag of flour in Northern Gaza is £414.
Onions have increased in price by 120 times since the start of the war, with a Christian Aid representative saying: “There are hardly any local markets anymore… the only way to buy is if you have cash in your hands".
A Christian Aid consultant who has a family of 15, including four young children aged between 2 and 7, told the charity: “The main source of food is what is being provided through humanitarian channels, which is very dangerous to try and access. People are living in fear.”
