In a recent interview, the progressive filmmaker Michael Moore made comments comparing "conservative Christians" to the Taliban.

The filmmaker and documentarian has had a history of making controversial statements, both in his films and outside of them. However, Moore decided to expand his platforms for expressing his beliefs by creating a Substack blog. Variety decided to interview Moore about his political views and the decision to move to Substack, focusing on Afghanistan. Moore published one of his first Substack posts after Afghanistan's fall. Moore has been a vocal critic of the war ever since. However, Moore has made a notable move in expressing his support for Biden's withdrawal from Afghanistan. While the decision did seem wise in Moore's opinion, he expressed concern for how the Taliban could set back women's rights in the country.

"They're religious nuts, but we've got those here too," Moore told Variety. "But they said yesterday in their press conference that girls' schools are going to remain open. Okay. We'll see. They also said they are going to operate under Islamic law. That's exactly how a lot of Southern Baptists want it to be here too. In a lot of parts of the country, we are following the dictates of conservative Christians. It's wrong there and it's wrong here."

Fox News notes that Moore's comments received mixed feedback. While some thought the comparison was inaccurate and offensive, others found them agreeable.
