Graham Linehan, co-creator of the sitcom Father Ted, has been arrested at London’s Heathrow Airport on suspicion of inciting violence against transgender people through social media posts.

The Irish comedy writer, known for his outspoken views on gender identity, was met by armed police upon arrival from the US.

Linehan has denied the charges but admitted posting controversial messages online.

In one tweet, he suggested that if a transgender male entered a female-only space, people should “make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails, punch him in the balls".

He later described the comment as a serious point made with humour, saying his intention was to raise concerns about women’s safety rather than encourage violence.

Linehan faces further legal proceedings related to earlier harassment claims

His court case is ongoing.
