The BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards ceremony returned on Tuesday 17th December, celebrating the achievements of leading figures in the world of sports.
Dr Mark Prince OBE was awarded a top honour at the event for campaigning against knife crime tirelessly since losing his son, Kiyan Prince, at the age of 15.
Kiyan was an academy football player for Championship team QPR and was fatally attacked while trying to break up a fight outside his school in London on the 18th May 2006.
Dr Prince received the prestigious Helen Rollason Award for extraordinary humanitarian work.
This award celebrates individuals who demonstrate exceptional courage, determination, and positive societal contribution.
During his thank you speech, Dr. Prince told the audience: "I am proud that at a time when everything seemed like there was no hope, that I stayed believing and trusting that Jesus Christ my saviour was going to use me to do great things still in the name of my son.
"I'm proud of the fact that I didn't give into revenge. I didn't give into bitterness and anger and unforgiveness and all the things which try to hold onto us as human beings.
"God has given us a choice, we can choose no matter what happens to us...we've got a power of choice. We can choose how we deal with it.
"We (haven't got) the choice of what happens, but we have the choice of how we deal with it".
The auditorium went silent during his speech and when he mentioned Jesus a "whoop" could be heard coming from the crowd.
The speech was posted on Youtube and met with positive comments, with one user commenting: "That speech sent chills down me. Very powerful. Bravo king." and another saying: "Wow... Powerful..."
