Football fans are praying for the recovery of Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

Awoniyi, 27 is currently in an induced coma following urgent abdominal surgery after a serious injury during a Premier League match against Leicester, as reported by Mail Online.

His collision with the goalpost on Sunday has left his family, team, and fans praying for his recovery.

Pro footballer Rasheedat Ajibade OLY wrote on X "Our hearts are heavy as we hold Taiwo Awoniyi in our prayers."

A devout Christian, his faith has been a constant source of strength throughout his career.

It's been reported that despite financial struggles, including not being able to afford proper boots, Awoniyi worked hard, even repairing his own and teammates' shoes to continue playing.

Awoniyi has credited his belief in God for giving him the strength to overcome adversity, especially when facing injury setbacks.

His wife Taiye told the outlet "faith keeps us going.”
