Ex CofE Bishop accused of more indecent assaults

Peter Ball was the former Bishop of Gloucester and Lewes and was due to appear in court in connection with indecent assaults in the seventies.

He was originally accused of a number of assaults on men aged between 12 and 20-years-old at Litlington in East Sussex.

Sussex Police now say the 82 year old will also appear in court accused of incidents involving a boy under 16 and a man over 16 in the 1980s.

Those alleged assaults are said to have taken place in Berwick and Litlington.

In a statement the force said: "These decisions by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) follow Operation Dunhill, an investigation by Sussex Police detectives into information received from the Church of England in May 2012."

Mr Ball is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates Court on Thursday.
