A US evangelist who was shot while promoting a special service outside his church last month has been moved out of the intensive care unit but remains in a "delicate condition".

Hans Schmidt was shot in the head just outside Victory Chapel First Phoenix Church in Glendale, Arizona, where he served as outreach director.

The father of two has been in intensive care since the incident took place in mid-November. Now, his father, Eric Schmidt, has told ABC 15 that the 26-year-old has been moved into a long-term facility within the hospital.

Eric also shared that the last time he visited his son, he could open his eyes.

"Hopefully he keeps trending positively the way it's been going, because he's still in a delicate condition," he continued.

Police are still searching for the attacker and have released a surveillance camera video of the incident. The footage shows Schmidt standing on a street corner when he suddenly fell forward. He was then seen getting back up.

"In the video, you can see Schmidt is on the street corner, you see a lot of cars driving by, a lot of people in the area, but it doesn't seem like anybody else is reacting to what happened. He gets back up, picks up his belongings, but we do not see anybody else driving by that seemed like something ordinary is going on," Glendale Police Officer Randy Stewart said.

Police have also offered a $10,000 (£8,000) compensation for information related to the case through Silent Witness, a charity that pays people for information on unresolved cases.

Officer Stewart told Fox 10 that the last information he heard related to Schmidt's condition was that he was not yet able to speak.

"Last I heard, he was not, but I didn't hear if he was actually talking today or not," he said.

On Wednesday, the church posted a video on Instagram featuring Smichdt preaching. The caption stated: "Hans, in his essence, shares the gospel. Please remember Hans and his family in your prayers. Jesus is a God of miraculous works!"
