Erika Kirk revealed she had been “praying to God” she was pregnant at the time her husband, Christian activist Charlie Kirk, was assassinated in September.

Speaking in an interview that aired Monday with American journalist Megyn Kelly, she said she and Charlie “wanted to have four” children, adding that she had hoped for “the ultimate blessing out of this catastrophe.”

The 37-year-old widow said the couple already have a three-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son, and that they had been “really excited to just expand our family.”

Charlie, who was 31, was shot dead while speaking at Utah Valley University during a Turning Point USA event.

Following this, she has encouraged young couples not to wait to start a family.

“Especially if you’re a young woman, don’t put it off. You can always have a career; you can always go back to work. You can never just go back to having children,” she said.

She added: “And they grow so fast and so quickly. I just—I was praying. Both of us were.”

Erika also described how she explained the loss to their daughter after returning from escorting her husband’s casket home to Arizona.

She recalled telling her: “Daddy loves you so much… he’s on a work trip with Jesus so he can afford your blueberry budget.”

Last month, Erika accepted the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Charlie’s behalf at the White House, where she read their daughter’s birthday message.

Following his death, she was named the new leader of Turning Point USA and vowed that continuing his mission would honor his legacy. “You have no idea what you just have unleashed across this entire country,” she said.
