Driscoll's resignation prompts staff returns

Mark Driscoll resigned after nine members of Mars Hill staff wrote and signed a letter publicly calling for him to step down from all forms of ministry at the church.

The former pastor chose to take a six-week break before deciding partway to resign.

By the time Driscoll resigned, all nine signatories of the letter calling for his resignation had either left the church or had been sacked.

One previous paid leader, Kevin Potts, told an American news station he plans to return now Driscoll has left.

He told KING 5 Television: "[I'll be] hopefully helping that church rebuild into something that glorifies Christ...

"I'm not exactly sure what's going to happen when I show up to church tomorrow morning.

"My purpose isn't to show up and say, 'Ha ha, Mark's gone, we won.'"

Rob Smith, a former elder of the church, wrote: "[It] is my prayer that I am not the only bruised and wounded soldier limping back."

Mark Driscoll has been accused of bullying, plagiarism and rigging book sales.

He has publicly apologised for dominating other people and for comments he made under a false name on an internet chat room, which have been perceived to be sexist, homophobic and critical of men he deemed to be effeminate.

In his resignation letter, he said people who were not direct witnesses to his conduct were testifying against him.

He added that things had become "unhealthy" for his family, to the point where they were physically unsafe.
