Medal loss was 'God's way of saying there's more to do', says British diving star

by Heather Preston

Christian diving star Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix continued to ‘give God the glory’ after missing out on an Olympic medal at the Paris 2024 Games on Tuesday.

Spendolini-Sirieix finished sixth in the women’s 10-metre platform final, with China’s Quan Hongchan taking home the gold.

Following her performance, the Team GB star gave a gracious response to the BBC: “Obviously it wasn’t the result I wanted but I’m not even upset with the competition, the girls dove amazing. They dove better than me today.”

Spendolini-Sirieix, who won bronze in the women’s synchronised 10-metre platform last week, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete in the Games and affirmed her trust in God’s plan.

"Just missing out on one medal doesn't change who I am," she said

“It was just God's way of saying we’ve still got a lot more to do and I just give God all the glory."

Having made her Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Games, Spendolini-Sirieix has consistently declared her desire to give God the glory throughout her career.

Before the launch of the 2024 Games, she shared Matthew 5:14 on her Instagram, which reads: “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”

She added: "Every athlete will be experiencing some sort of pressure and noise, but I am ensuring my focus is directed towards the light of God. I want to dive like no one is watching, even if the whole world is."
