The Diocese of Chichester is encouraging churches across Sussex to act against any form of Racism, ahead of Racial Justice Sunday (February 13.)

They have been urged to continue to pray and respond to three principles end injustice for all: Responding, Reflecting and Remembering.

While parishes across Sussex reflect on the three principles the Bishop of Lewes, Will Hazlewood, said: “Injustice exists.

“This day will give us an opportunity to reflect on the times we might have failed in our ministry and to remember the importance of racial injustice and to reflect on the brilliance of human diversity.”

He said, “We aim to respond in prayer and action to end injustice, racism and ignorance.”

Dr Martin Warner, The Bishop of Chichester will be leading a service at Holy Cross, Uckfield this Sunday (February 13) at 3pm with two clergy from Uckfield.

Fr John Wall and The Revd Martha Mutikani as well as contributions from international students at Steyning Grammar School.

Bishop Will leads on the diocesan work to respond to the Archbishops' report 'From Lament to Action.' 

In his video message, Bishop Will said: “All of us want things to go back to normal after the pandemic

“We all know that in the past racial justice has not been high in our priority list, we all know all sorts of injustice has existed in our own country and around the world.

“Racial justice Sunday, just gives us an opportunity to reflect a little bit more deeply on our role within building a new norm.

“A normal that reflects the Kingdom of God.”
