Devil can't ruin Christmas for us, says couple after Nativity set blaze

Firefighters were called to the house of John and Naomi Zimmerman in Frederick, Maryland, on Tuesday where flames tore through the fibreglass figurines.

Despite the blaze, which is the second to strike their display, the couple plan to reinstall it, to share with the local community about the birth of Jesus.

Naomi was quoted by the Frederick News-Post as saying: "He came for us. He lived for us. He died for us. That's the story we have to tell, The devil can't ruin Christmas for us."

John and Naomi first installed the scene outside their property in 1965 but say a signboard showing Christmas-themed messages outside their home has been egged and stoned in the past.

No one was hurt in Tuesday's fire and firefighters believe it was probably started accidentally by electric lights illuminating the display.
