Popstar Demi Lovato has shared an image of her new tattoo on Instagram, revealing that the striking image was inspired by her Christian faith.
Writing to her 77.2 million followers, Lovato revealed how she came to attain the new ink:
"I recently went dark on social media in preparation for my Grammy and Super Bowl performances but while I was off socials I got this incredibly meaningful tattoo done by @alessandro_capozzi. Getting tatted by him was an experience I’ve never had before.. no idea what I was going to get done, I told him about my life and where I was at in that moment and we created a combination of images that best symbolized the spiritual awakening I was having."
The "Give Your Heart a Break" singer, who has been open about her struggles with substance abuse, explained how the image is meant to depict her being pulled up out of the darkness by the three persons of the Holy Trinity:
"Having a fallen angel being lifted by 3, pure, angelic doves (the Holy trinity) as her inner light is being guided by a higher consciousness, and the disintegration of her dark wings was representing the darkness I was shedding. Alessandro - you are extremely talented and I can’t wait for more!!"
In October of last year, Lovato shared photos of herself visiting Israel and even being baptised in the Jordan River.
"I was raised Christian and have Jewish ancestors. When I was offered an amazing opportunity to visit the places I’d read about in the Bible growing up, I said yes," she wrote.
"There is something absolutely magical about Israel. I’ve never felt such a sense of spirituality or connection to God…something I’ve been missing for a few years now. Spirituality is so important to me…to be baptized in the Jordan river – the same place Jesus was baptized – I’ve never felt more renewed in my life.
This trip has been so important for my well-being, my heart, and my soul. I’m grateful for the memories made and the opportunity to be able to fill the God-sized hole in my heart. Thank you for having me, Israel."
