Former Maverick City singer Dante Bowe has spoken about the reason he left the worship group, almost a year after his departure was announced.
The singer left the group in September 2022. In a statement, Maverick City said Bowe’s behaviour was not consistent with the “beliefs” of his bandmates.
Bowe posted an apology on Instagram but deleted it a week later.
Now, he claims the group used two minor incidents as “leeway” to pause their relationship, but that it was his decision to abandon their tour that was the reason behind the split.
“I accidentally posted a photo of myself that was inappropriate but it wasn’t that bad – it wasn’t a sexual photo,” said the singer, in an interview with Larry Reid Live.
“However, it was for none of that.
“Maverick and I hadn’t been working together for a while at that point, technically.”
Bowe spoke of his decision to pursue his solo career in the midst of the Maverick City success, which created friction within the group.
“We were having all these little feuds at the time and I was kind of in and out, and this last tour that they went on, I called in after my tour and said ‘man, I’m sick. I feel like I can’t do it.’
“I did feel bad, I was a little sick but at the same time, I really was just tired of being part of a group – it’s a lot of work.”
Announcing his departure last year, Maverick City Music said: "Dante is a brother in Christ and as such he has our full commitment and unwavering support as he continues to navigate his path forward," the statement read.
"Each of us need God's grace, and our hope is that we all pray and give him the same opportunity to grow in Christ as we give ourselves."
