Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo took to social media to praise the goodness of God after Jurgen Klopp's youthful side bettered Chelsea in the Carabao Cup Final to claim the first trophy of the season.

The 24-year-old's faith mainly came to prominence during last year's World Cup in Qatar, when he and his teammate, Memphis Depay, led devotionals with squad members.

Gakpo took the Bible study, and Depay led prayers. "I often take the floor because I am the one who has studied the faith the longest," he told NCR.

Manager Klopp, who also professes a Christian faith, described Liverpool's Wembley victory as "the most special trophy" out of the ten he's now won with the Reds, with six academy players aged 21 and under featuring in the game.

He was without six first-team regulars, including goalkeeper Alisson, arch-goal scorer Mo Salah and chief creator Trent Alexander Arnold, all side-lined with injury.
