More than 125 teenagers and adults have tested positive for coronavirus during a summer youth camp run by Clear Creek Community Church in the US. 

Pastor Bruce Wesley, head of the Texas-based congregation, confirmed the news on its social media. In a Facebook post, pastor Wesley said: "Unfortunately, upon return from camp, 125+ campers and adults reported to us that they tested positive for COVID-19." 

"Additionally, hundreds more were exposed to COVID-19 at camp. And hundreds of others were likely exposed when infected people returned home from camp. We seek to remain in contact with those impacted. If you, or someone in your family, begins to have symptoms, please seek medical attention immediately." 

More than 400 people participated in the yearly student ministry camp from 23rd June to 27th June. Local health authorities said the first case was notified on 27th June and has assured it is working with the church´s leadership team to trace any further infections. 

"The health district is working closely with church leadership to investigate the outbreak, trace potential contacts and offer guidance and resources," health district officials said. "The youth group did not leave the campground during their stay. They did have contact with counselors from their church. No other campers were on site."

Pastor Wesley also announced all in-person services in all five churches spread across the state will be cancelled until 8th July. 

"From the beginning of the pandemic, we have sought to love our neighbors by practicing strict safety protocols. We are surprised and saddened by this turn of events. Our hearts break for those infected with the virus." 

"Please pray for a speedy and complete recovery for all of those affected," the statement concluded.
