Popstar Lizzo is being sued by three of her former dancers over the "hostile working environment" that she and her team are alleged to have created.

The complaint, which was filed in Los Angeles earlier this week, includes allegations of 'fat-shaming' as well as dancers being forced to attend a night out in which those attended were pressured to touch nude performers.

“The stunning nature of how Lizzo and her management team treated their performers seems to go against everything Lizzo stands for publicly, while privately she weight-shames her dancers and demeans them in ways that are not only illegal but absolutely demoralising,” lawyer Ron Zambrano said in a statement.

But perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the lawsuit was the way that Christianity was pushed onto dancers by Lizzo's dance captain Shirlene Quigley.

It's alleged that the dancers were forced to attend prayer sessions and in some cases actively take part.

The lawsuit notes: “While it was not an official requirement for team members to participate in these prayers, it became clear that engagement was compulsory."

The complaint also claims that Quigley forced her Christian faith onto the dancers "taking every opportunity to proselytise" despite being asked to stop.

When challenged, it's alleged she replied: “No job and no one will stop me from talking about the Lord.”

Lizzo herself was brought up in a church but isn't thought to have an active faith herself. The allegations of religious discrimination in the lawsuit aren't aimed directly at her but she is accused of allowing the behaviour to take place.

Neither Lizzo or Shirlene Quigley have responded to the allegations.
