An Assemblies of God church has been caught up in the deadly fires raging across the state of Oregon in United States.

Living Water Family Fellowship, was formerly located two miles outside of Blue River, a town that has been completely wiped out by the blaze.

The fire is believed to have been started by a failed transformer which caused a loss of power for the whole town.

Doug and Cheri Farrington are the senior pastors and have led the church for the last six years. In an interview for Assemblies of God News, Doug Farrington explains that on Monday night the church lost power and within an hour they were being asked to evacuate.

"The church and the parsonage are gone." He said while struggling to speak through the emotion. "The high school, post office...all gone."

He went on to explain that everyone had managed to escape but almost the entire congregation had lost their homes.

Meanwhile, hundreds of firefighters battled two large wildfires on Friday that threatened to merge near the most populated part of Oregon as the governor said dozens of people are missing in other parts of the state.

The state's emergency management director Andrew Phelps said officials are "preparing for a mass fatality event" and that thousands of structures have been destroyed.

Governor Kate Brown said more than 40,000 Oregonians have been evacuated and about 500,000 are in different levels of evacuation zones, either having been told to leave or to prepare to do so.
