Church opens tranquility garden in remembrance of Covid victims

by Alex Collett

A church in Wales has opened a tranquillity garden in remembrance of all the people whose lives were lost during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The space, which has opened at the Holy Trinity Church, Penrhyndeudraeth, was built by volunteers with the help of local suppliers.

The garden features commemorative benches with views of the Dwyryd Estuary towards Harlech Castle

Rev Roland Barnes, vicar of Holy Trinity, said it is great to have this new peaceful space.

"In a world dominated by pressures and worries, from Covid and climate change to economic woes and conflicts, it is so nice to have a calm, quiet space to sit and reflect, and have our spirits lifted by something truly beautiful; the bright colour of flowers and singing of birds," he said.

"The garden is a credit to the church members and members of Penrhyndeudraeth community, who have come together to create something really worthwhile."

A church member, Anne Swan, is also planning for a Book of Remembrance to be made by 2023.

Anyone whose family, friends or colleagues died as a result of contracting the virus and were Gwynedd residents are invited to have their names recorded in it.

For a monthly gift of $11 or more we’d also be able to send you a free copy of the brand new Premier Bible, a wonderful Anglicised version of the NLT packed with exclusive bonus content, reading plan and resources to help you get the most out of scripture.

Your monthly support will make a world of difference. Thank you.
