The Church of Scotland's Moderator has said schools can use their churches if it will help get children back in the classroom while sticking to social distancing rules.
Schools in Scotland are currently closed but are due to return in August. The two-metre rule still applies in Scotland.
Rt Rev Dr Martin Fair, who was installed as the chairperson of the General Assembly earlier this year, said he has already been on contact with politicians and clergy to discuss the possibility.
He told Scottish paper The Press and Journal: "There are some discussions ongoing between the church hierarchy and local government officials about that possibility,
"I have certainly spoken to various parish ministers who are only too ready to go down that route. One thing we have got is community space right across the country. Given that classroom sizes are going to be affected, we will be ready, I am sure, where it is appropriate to open our buildings more widely and not least for schools' use if that proves to be possible."
Kate Forbes, the SNP's Finance Secretary and Christian MSP told Premier it was a positive suggestion: "It's good to see churches working with their local communities during the pandemic. There has been a lot of selfless action, whether through looking out for shielding neighbours or this latest example.
"I know it has been tough for churches who cannot meet corporately but this shows that love and kindness isn't restricted to a physical building."
