Church of Scotland launches first online congregation

Former Moderator Albert Bogle has taken the official title of digital minister.

He's hoping to increase the number of churches which use social media as well as finding a way to offer pastoral support to those who have no intention of attending services on a Sunday.

The 69-year-old said: "There is a growing Christian audience online who seek quality content to nurture their faith.

"My role is about helping to provide an online community for those who have left the buildings and committee structures far behind but not the Church."

In 2014, the Church of Scotland was challenged to find 100,000 new members by 2025 through online platforms.

Just 20 of 1,300 congregations currently stream services online while many have no online presence.
