The Church of Norway has temporarily changed its logo to the Church of England’s cross, to commemorate England’s World Cup victory.
Den Norske Kirke wrote on Instagram: “No, we haven’t been hacked. We just lost a bet to the Church of England… A pleasure betting with you. Congratulations!
Totally worth it.”
It came after the airline Norwegian first challenged British Airways to a bet, stating on Instagram: “If Norway wins, you have to switch to our logo on Instagram on Sunday (one day). And vice versa. Deal?”
Den Norske Kirke then posted a challenge of its own to the CofE, asking: “Ready to risk your logo?”
The Church of England responded: “We know our logo will look great on you.”
England beat Norway 2-1 on Saturday, thanks to two goals from Jude Bellingham.
On the pitch, too, there was friendly rivalry, as Bellingham came up against his former teammate, Erling Haaland. The pair played together at Borussia Dortmund from 2020 to 2022, and have been close ever since.
