The Church of England has visited the Baby Show for the first time to talk to parents about christenings and how their baby can begin their journey with God.

Clergy met parents at the event in London and even set up a font to go alongside their prayer activity workshop and bubbles.

The team answered families' questions about baptism and explained how Godparents and the church can play a role in an infant's life.

It is thought that every week 2,200 children are baptised by the Church of England.

Revd Kate Bottley said: "I'm really excited to be on the CofE christenings stand here at the National Baby show.

"It's got a great atmosphere with lots of soon to be mums and dads plus a few who've brought children with them.

"It's lovely to be talking about God's love and blessing on the amazing journey which we can share with them."

Revd Dr Sandra Millar, Head of Projects and Developments for the Archbishops' Council said that: "For a lot of families having a baby is such an overwhelming thing that they want in some way to say thank you and also to have a real sense of blessing for their child.

"So coming to talk to the Church, to find out the best way to do that and whether having a child baptised at a christening is the right thing for them, is really helpful to parents.

"By meeting parents at the Baby Show we hope to make this process more accessible."
