Church leaders ask for prayers amid Yemen violence

by Hannah Tooley

A Catholic church building in Aden has been destroyed in the current warfare, according to Middle East Concern.

The Church of the Immaculate Conception was badly damaged in May however it was further destroyed during the week when militants detonated explosives in the church.

The walls remain standing however the roof has collapsed and there are unconfirmed reports coming from the country that locals attempted to protect the church from further destruction.

The church used to be used for Mass but since the conflict began it has been more difficult to have services and many stopped in 2015.

Violence first began in the country in 2004.

Christian charity Middle East Concern said that the damage in May was inflicted during airstrikes as it was thought rebels used to use a house nearby to the church.

The charity is warning that the humanitarian problem in Yemen continues to worsen and church leaders are requesting that firstly: "The small remaining expatriate Christian community in Yemen will know the Father's comfort and strength, and the Son's close presence and that peace and justice will be restored in Yemen."

As well "that humanitarian aid will reach all who are in need d. that all Christians in Yemen will know the Spirit's guidance in every aspect of their life and witness."
