Eighty five per cent of people asked agreed that most are now using advent and the festive season as a reason to go out and drink alcohol.
The online questionnaire also showed there was near total agreement to the statement that, these days, there is insufficient emphasis on the nativity.
Ninety per cent of people agreed that Christmas was too commercialised whilst 97 per cent said Christians should not have to worry about offending other faiths during Advent.
Peter Kerridge, CEO of Premier Christian Radio, said: "There appears to be general agreement among Premier listeners that Christmas in the 21st century seems to be more about spending a lot of money on presents, food and drink, and going to parties.
"But the message of the nativity is in danger of being lost in a wave of commercialism and concerns about offending other religions in celebrations of the birth of Christ."
