Christians called to pray for relief workers responding to Indonesian disaster

by Eno Adeogun

An Indonesian city has started burying its dead from the disaster - triggered by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake that hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.

Indonesia is majority Muslim, and religious custom calls for burials soon after death, typically within one day.

World Vision is on the ground supporting rescue workers searching for survivors.

Priscilla Christin from the Christian charity told Premier how we can support both rescue workers and survivors.

"You can also pray for us. We need your support in prayer so all of the efforts to support the affected community can be done."

Indonesia's government has appealed for international help, amidst fears the death toll will rise to thousands.

Most of the dead were from the city of Palu, where World Vision sent teams on Sunday morning.

Describing the devastation left behind, Christin said: "A lot of homes and buildings are collapsed and the iconic bridge in Palu is also destroyed because of this.

World Vision is calling on people to help bring urgent supplies and shelter to devastated families and their communities by donating on their website.
