Christians call for 'blasphemous' clothing site to remove religion-themed garments from website

Christians are calling for a clothing brand to remove all the religion-themed clothing from their website following backlash over a “blasphemous” bikini.

TikTok Christian Addison Rae received considerable backlash after taking part in an Adidas social media campaign, sporting a swimming outfit labelled “The Holy Trinity bikini”.

The Adidas campaign was in conjunction with clothing brand Praying – a website that sells a number of Christianity-themed clothing items. 

However, many Christians were unhappy with the bikini, which said “Father” on one side of the top, “Son” on the other, and “Holy Spirit” across the front of the bottoms. 

The French equivalent of the bikini has also been spotted on Christina Aguilera. Stars like Olivia Rodrigo have also been seen wearing items from the brand, but not those with a religious theme. 

The website also sells “Corinthians shorts”, which have a verse from the Bible written across the groin. 

The website – which portrays itself as a Christian clothing brand - claims to have saved more than 51 million people; almost the equivalent of the entire population of South Korea. 

However, one of their tops reads “I’ll talk to God when I’m dead”. 

Since the backlash, they have attached Bible quotes and faith-related slogans under pictures of their Christian items. 

Underneath the “blasphemous bikini” photo, it reads: “Incredible faith powerful healing bikini. Triangle Tie Side. Peace be on you and with your spirit. 0 returns. No exceptions.”

Under a picture of a pair of trainers inscribed with the word “praying” – also designed for Adidas – they have written a prayer. It reads: “Lord, Watch over me today as I run. This is the day and this is the time for the race. Watch over my body. Keep it free from injury.”

Comments on the brands instagram page share disgust at the apparel. One says: "This is not alright, this is blasphemy."

Another reads: "You don’t have to be Christian to understand how disrespectful this is."

A third says: "This is crossing the line. We don’t see any other brands getting away with disrespecting other religions but when it’s Christianity that’s when y’all don’t have a problem with it."

Another disgruntled Instagram user wrote: "I just don't see the need of mocking a religion to be profitable"

One other said: "Stop sexualizing Christ."
