Christians across Nigeria protest for murdered Christian student Deborah Samuel

by Alex Collett

Christians across Nigeria took to the streets on Sunday to protest against the killing of student Deborah Samuel.

She was stoned and then set on fire during this year's Ramadan for allegedly sending messages insulting the Muslim Prophet Mohammed to a WhatsApp group.

The protest took place at the National Headquarters of the Church in Lagos.

Speaking during the protest assistant general overseer of RCCG, Pastor Johnson Odesola said that human life must be preserved and the country must live together as one irrespective of religion or faith.
He said: "As a Christian we are taught to be gentle…We need to show love."

He added that the Sokoto State government is not responding to the situation the way he thought.

"I heard what the governor is saying which is not encouraging at all maybe because of his political ambition."

"We believe we must live together in love and harmony because Christianity is not violence."

Pastor Odesola also mentioned that the protest was limited to church premises in orther not to stair up violence.

Assistant pastor in charge of parish, national headquarters, Pastor Adebayo Adeyemo is appealing to Christians not to take laws into their hands even as he called on government to ensure justice prevailed.

He said: "We know that some of our Muslims brothers are tolerant but the should not allow the few bad eggs to tarnish their image."
