Christian woman banned from gym after calling out man in women's locker room

by Lydia Davies

Planet Fitness, a renowned American gym, has revoked the membership of a Christian woman after she complained about a man using the women's locker room.

Patricia Silva, a former member of an Alaska Planet Fitness branch, posted a photo on social media of what she described as "an adult man shaving at a sink in the women's locker room".

In Silva's account of the incident, she acknowledged that the man identifies as a woman but insisted that his presence in a women-only space was inappropriate.

She expressed that while she "love[s] [the man] in Christ", she felt uncomfortable with his presence.

Silva stated that upon encountering the man in the locker room, she noticed a visibly "freaked-out" young girl.

When she confronted him about his presence there, he justified it by saying he identified as an LGBT-identifying person.

Silvia told Advocate that she went to complain to staff at the gym but was met with disregard.

“The two men standing at the desk, put their heads down, and their tails between their legs!" Silva claimed.

In response to the complaint, she said Planet Fitness revoked her membership at the gym.

Silvia said: “Planet Fitness is defending the man in the women's locker room, rather than the child sitting in the corner with the towel wrapped around her”.

She felt that seeing a man in the women's locker room made her feel unsafe and urged other women to use their authority to address such matters.

Responding to an inquiry from The Christian Post about this incident, McCall Gosselin, chief corporate affairs officer at Planet Fitness stated that their policy allows members and guests to use gym facilities aligning with their self-reported gender identity.

They also mentioned that taking photos of individuals in the locker room is against their mobile device policy, which led to this member's termination.
