Christian safeguarding charity reveals new name and vision

by Tola Mbakwe

The rebranding comes as the charity celebrates its 40 years of protecting children and vulnerable adults from abuse.

The inspiration behind the new name comes from Proverbs 31:8 which says: 'Speak out on behalf of the voiceless, and for the rights of all who are vulnerable' (CEV).

Justin Humphreys, chief executive of the charity said they found that over the years the name CCPAS no longer adequately reflected who the charity is and the service it provides.

"As the only independent Christian charity offering a complete safeguarding solution we work alongside organisations, faith, community and government groups, making sure they are equipped and empowered to protect vulnerable people," he said.

"We do this by providing training, consultancy, disclosures and a 24-hour helpline, as well as leading the way in informing legislation and promoting high standards in safeguarding practice.

"Our vision is a bold one. It's one of a world where every child and adult can feel and be safe. Creating safer places is how we achieve that and we do that together, in partnership with organisations and individuals."

Thirtyone:eight said it will continue its mission to equip society with the knowledge and skills to create safer environments for children and adults at risk and empower society to respond appropriately to those who are vulnerable or have experienced abuse.

It will also work to encourage society to stand against oppression and exploitation by informing legislation and striving to raise the standards in safeguarding practice.

Peter Wright from the charity added: "Our new name reflects what motivates us. It's inspired by God's call to 'speak out on behalf of the voiceless, and for the rights of all who are vulnerable' as described in Proverbs 31:8. We care about vulnerable people because we believe that's what God told us to do."
